Marlborough 2nd XI (3) v North Wilts (0) October 6, 2007 |
| Marlborough entertained
North Wilts on Saturday in the competitive Avon league and ran out winners
in a lively match. The opening quarter of the match was cagey as both sides probed for weaknesses in the other’s defence, slowly though the home side’s midfield began to dominate and take more of a grip on the game. Good work from Mark Bridger set up a couple of openings and when a penalty corner was won, up stepped Rupert Naylor to score from Will Hughes’ deft pass. In the second half North Wilts came out bristling with intent and went close to scoring with ex Marlborough player Gareth Hayes showing some typically silky touches. However the home side remained confident and doubled their lead when Max Wood rammed home from close range. Marlborough continued to press and were rewarded just before the end when Naylor added his second to cap an impressive display. Vice Captain Juju Riches was pleased with the team’s performance at the final whistle, “I felt that we controlled large parts of the game and when they put us under pressure we responded well and scored a couple of good goals.” |
