Marlborough 3 -1 Firebrands (A) - Saturday 7 November

Marlborough went into this game on the back of a great result against high fliers Exeter Uni, so their confidence was high. Marlborough started the brighter, passing the ball around nicely, creating chances, but couldn’t convert their chances. The whole half was dominated by the midfield, Ed Gosling and Charlie Hawley were unlucky not to break the deadlock. It was only the good form of the away side's keeper that denied them. The score at half time was 0-0.
The second half was much like the first; Marlborough dominating the possession and creating plenty of chances until finally a goal came.
In a phase of open play, Keith Radnedge steamed into the ‘D’ forcing a good save from the keeper, only for the rebound to play 'ping pong' with 2 attackers, with the ball finally forced in by Anil Sud.
This inspired Marlborough and they scored again through Jimmy Osborne, as he skilfully dribbled passed two defenders and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. The third goal came from a short corner, when Rich Holman fired the ball into the near post where Jimmy Osborne was on hand to deflect the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
Osborne was later to be denied a hat-trick, when a goal was questionably disallowed.
Firebrands scored a consolation goal at the death and Marlborough closed out for their first victory of the season. The young, dynamic midfielder Anil Sud said after the game, “We thoroughly deserved our win today, we played some great hockey. Hopefully this is the start of a winning run of games leading up to Christmas.”
