Marlborough (A) 3 - 1 North Wilts A (H) - Saturday 23 October
Marlborough’s second home game of the season delivered their second win.
Five games into this season, in a new, higher league has been tough, with very little between Marlborough and their oppositions, yet Marlborough have failed to capitalise on the chances that have come their way. Was this weekend’s encounter with North Wilts going to be any different?
The opening exchanges indicated that this was to be a battle, and that no quarter would be given without a fight. Despite great pressure from Marlborough, no goal was immediately forthcoming and North Wilts continued to counter attack strongly and threaten the Marlborough goal.
The goal came for the home-side, through good Marlborough interplay, which was put away by the ever-potent Steven Bishop. This advantage was quickly doubled when an initial Marlborough strike was rebounded and collected by Pav Lochab, who deftly dribbled around the prone keeper and calmly put the ball in the net.
This score-line was stagnant until well into the second half, until Andy Thomson concluded yet another dynamic move from Marlborough, putting them 3-0 ahead.
North Wilts never gave up the fight and continued to battle to the very last whistle. Finally managing to breach the Marlborough defence and earn themselves a goal in the closing minutes of the game.
A great result for Marlborough and well done to George Gregory who put in yet another assured and mature performance at left back.
